Helping Hands Healthcare is looking for Care Companions to visit seniors and other vulnerable people who are unable to leave their homes and could participate in friendly conversation, playing games, watching shows or doing crafts.
The HHH care companion visits seniors or other vulnerable people who are unable to leave their homes and could participate in friendly conversation, playing games, watching shows or doing crafts. The purpose of the role is to:
Reduce negative effects of social isolation and loneliness
Reduce the safety risk while the primary caregiver is not available
To provide a break to primary caregivers/families
Be a kind and supportive companion
Spend time with clients who may be elderly, have mobility, developmental or other physical or cognitive challenges for different durations of time (minimum of 1 hour per visit)
Act quickly and responsibly in cases of emergency
Supervision of the client to create a safe and supportive environment
Working in a variety of client’s private residences
Varying hours of work
Secondary school graduate
Certificate in elder care/gerontology preferred, but not required
First Aid/CPR Certificate
PSW certificate preferred, but not required
1 – 2 years experience working with seniors, people with disabilities or other vulnerable populations
Customer service experience is preferred
Experience working with people with memory issues/dementia preferred
Strong written and oral English;
Speak and write clearly, informatively, persuasively
